Erfan Niyayesh Hospital/SICOT Fellowship (closed)

Funded by SICOT and the Erfan Niyayesh Hospital 

 

Every year, SICOT will offer four surgeons a six-month fellowship to the Erfan Niyayesh Hospital (Tehran, Iran) in Hip and Knee Arthroplasty. The fellows will be able to scrub.

The Erfan group hospitals consist of two private hospitals (Erfan and Erfan Niayesh hospitals) and clinics and do over 1500 orthopaedic procedures yearly which includes full range of Orthopaedic procedures including joint replacement, upper limb, foot and ankle surgery, many complex total hip replacement, revision total hip and knee, DDH Crowe type 3-4 total hip replacement. The service is based at Erfan Niayesh hospital where all inpatient and day cases are performed. These hospitals have consultant orthopaedic surgeons working across operating theatres and trauma theatre. The hospital has a team of orthopaedic anaesthetists to ensure that patients are safely able to undergo their orthopaedic procedure. The outpatient services includes: Orthopaedic clinics by consultant surgeons, Pre-op Assesment clinics by specialists, Arthroplasty review clinics, Fracture liaison clinics by nurses and radiographers, Orthopaedic clinics by orthopaedic consultants working alongside a great team of physiotherapists. The best time to attend is May and November.

The accommodation and the local travelling costs will be provided for by the Erfan Niyayesh Hospital. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by SICOT up to EUR 1,000 (economy ticket only). Taxis will only be reimbursed at a reasonable amount. Airport shuttle bus service must be used in priority to taxis.

Prerequisites

  • Must be a SICOT member with membership dues paid two years in a row at the time of the application (the year of the application deadline and the year before)

  • Must be 45 years or under at the beginning of the fellowship

  • Must have three or more years of specialised orthopaedic training at the time of application

  • Health insurance coverage during stay at centre

  • Medical check-up before travel (including lab results for blood tests)

  • Application form must be filled in

  • Priority is given to candidates having attended one or more SICOT Congress(es) in the past 4 years

  • Preference is given to international fellows. SICOT will not cover the travelling costs of national fellows.

  • Two recommendation letters, one must be from the current Head of Department

  • Motivation letter showing the motivation and the reason for wanting to attend this fellowship
